To be able to learn or implement digital marketing effectively you need to have at least basic knowledge about the various modules that make up digital marketing.
In this post, I will highlight most of the various components that make up digital marketing.
If you are new to the subject “digital marketing” I have written a post where I explained to an extent what digital marketing is all about.
But let me breifly explain here what digital marketing is all about, digital marketing is about performing marketing activities through digital means. If you understand the regular marketing activities that happens arroud you or at any market in your town, then you can easily understand what digital marketing is, it’s about using digital tools like, internet, computer or smartphones, software, etc to carry out marketing activities.
Digital marketing is vast, it has various modules and tools that are used to carry out its activities. It not might be possible for someone to master master all of the modules and tools that make up digital marketing, but it’s good to have basic knowledge about all the modules, and then focus on the modules and tools that can help you scale your Business or digital marketing career.

Let’s briefly look at them:
Content Marketing is seen as the king in digital marketing, almost every other digital marketing activities rely on Content marketing.
Content Marketing involves the creation of contents like blog posts, social media post, videos, images, audios, infographics etc that can be promoted to an audience.
The essence of content Marketing is to attract, generate leads, engage and grow fan base.
Effective content marketing involves having an effective strategy.
Content marketing strategy can be to create brand awareness, or generate leads, or reduce cost, or increase revenue.
Social media marketing
Social media marketing involves using various social media network to promote a brand, product or service. Digital Marketers use various social Media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc to create awareness, generate leads, increase sales and increase fan base.
This is achieved through various tools this platforms offers, like the ability to run an advertisement, post contents and interact with audiences, etc.
Search Engine Optimization(SEO)
Search Engine Optimization; also known as SEO is one of the most complex components in Digital Marketing.
SEO is about optimising websites or blogs to organically rank high in search results like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc. One of the thing that makes SEO a bit complicated is the fact that it’s difficult to predict which keywords that will rank high in search results without proper researchers, this because keywords trends changes and search engines make use of algorithm which follow some certain rules, which also changes.
Actually, there many tools out there that can help in implement effective SEO, best practice for SEO is to do a proper keywords research in your niche and see what people are searching for mostly and then use your findings to create content. Another practice to increase you chances of optimising in search Engines, is to do proper on page optimization.
Search Engine Marketing(SEM)
Search engine marketing also know as SEM involves promotion of content in search results.
Unlike Search Engine Optimization (SEO), instead of hoping that your content gets ranked high in search results you can pay to search engines to show your content on the top first page of search results.
Tools like Google AdWords help you create a Search Engine ads campaigns.
Analytics In digital marketing help you monitor various processes of your marketing activities. This is one of the thing that makes digital marketing more effective than traditional marketing. Analytics helps online platforms owners understand the behaviour of their traffics (users).
Analytics helps to monitor the source of traffic to a platform, like where they are coming from, what they are viewing, how long they are spending on the platform and the links they are clicking when they are on the platforms. Digital marketers use analytics to determine and develop digital Marketing strategies, like where to focus their campaigns and all that.
This involves marketing activities that are done through electronic mail.
Email marketing enables an end to end communications. It’s a cost-effective way of marketing online. Because when you have an email address of anyone, you don’t need to pay for any promotion to reach that person. All you need to do is to push your content directly to that person’s inbox.
This involves setting up digital Marketing activities to run automatically. For example, there are tools that you can use to automatically publish your post from your blog to your social medias, also you can schedule your post for publishing on your blog or social media accounts or schedule an email to be sent to your email list. All you need to do is set up the process and the set up actions will be carried out on its own.
Automation Marketing helps marketers do more in less time.
Digital Marketing Integration
This involves blending together various components of Digital Marketing in a way that they serve and complement each other. You can create a blog post, share it on social media with a link and gain traffic to website or blog through that link, thereby increasing your website or blog traffic.
Your traffic may also sign up for your email list, you generate leads, which might lead to sales, etc. all acting independently but fulfilling the overall purpose of implementing marketing activities.
An effective digital marketing campaign will always make use of two or more digital Marketing components and that is what is called digital marketing Integration.
Ok, that’s all on the list. These are some, but mostly the major modules that make up Digital Marketing. There are other components, but like I said early digital Marketing is a very vast subject. The best way to learn it is to focus on the components that will serve your Business, and it’s possible to make a career out of any of the modules mentioned above.
The best thing is to focus and master one, two or three of any any of the modules, but also have basic knowledge about all other modules.
